Topic: The Nervous System Case and Reducing Barriers to Recovery

Presented by Corinne Badenhorst and Dr Cuan Wayne Coetzee

Before movement can become therapeutic, we need to understand what may be preventing the nervous system from feeling safe enough to move.

Corinne Badenhorst, Occupational Therapist, Psychoneuroimmunology practitioner and HeartMath practitioner, explores the nervous-system and biological case for movement. She examines the effects of inactivity on the brain, immune system, endocrine system and autonomic nervous system; why chronic stress needs a physical route out; and why a dysregulated nervous system may experience movement as a threat rather than a resource.

Dr Cuan Wayne Coetzee, family and sports chiropractor, author of Why Movement Is Medicine and developer of the Neural Re-Education framework, introduces the REMOVE phase. He explores the pain-protection loop, fear avoidance, therapeutic language, pain neuroscience education and the therapeutic alliance, showing how meaning, expectation and trust can reduce unnecessary threat before movement is restored.

This webinar establishes why movement matters, why starting can be so difficult, and what must first be removed for the nervous system to become available for recovery.
