Identify and work with nervous system patterns in clinical practice.

The Nervous System Profile - Practitioner Edition is an interactive assessment informed by polyvagal theory, attachment research and clinical-practice frameworks. In under five minutes, it identifies which of five nervous system patterns a client most often lives from and provides matched regulation guidance.

This is not a personality test or diagnostic instrument. It is a clinical reflection and psychoeducation tool designed to support appropriately qualified practitioners.

The assessment identifies a client's primary pattern, which tends to appear under stress, and a secondary pattern, which may emerge in other situations. Most people are a blend of two patterns, helping the practitioner understand why generic regulation strategies may not have worked before.

  • The Commander - driven, strong and in control.
  • The Explorer - curious, quick and restless.
  • The Sanctuary - deep, sensitive and quiet.
  • The Diplomat - attuned, warm and harmonising.
  • The Tuner - regulated, resilient and in flow.
  • A protected interactive assessment for identifying primary and secondary nervous system patterns
  • Personalised strengths, stressors and matched regulation tools
  • Top-down and bottom-up intervention ideas
  • An animated breathing practice calibrated to the identified profile
  • A daily nervous system menu and SOS toolkit
  • Teaching on glimmers, the 10-second safety practice and the 90-Second Rule
  • Five licensed Practitioner Profile Guides: Commander, Explorer, Sanctuary, Diplomat and Tuner
  • Clinical observation cues, profile-specific protocols and behaviour-change guidance
  • Reflection worksheets and a 21-day practice tracker for each profile

Use the assessment during an initial or review session, or invite the client to complete it between sessions under your guidance. Review the primary and secondary results together, select the appropriate profile guides and choose regulation practices suited to the client's presentation and readiness.

Practitioners can use the E-Tool to:

  • Give clients accessible language for their nervous system patterns
  • Personalise regulation interventions
  • Support reflective discussion in individual, couples and family work
  • Track changes in pattern intensity over a 6- to 8-week period
  • Build long-term self-awareness without presenting the framework as diagnosis

Important: This resource provides psychoeducation and clinical reflection. It does not diagnose, treat or replace comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention or referral. Registered practitioners remain responsible for informed consent, clinical judgement, confidentiality, appropriate pacing and working within their profession's scope of practice.
